The Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre will be closed for two weeks starting August 31 for its annual maintenance period, giving the facility a needed refresh before fall programs ramp up. The closure, which runs through September 13, is a routine event that happens every year around this time, according to the City of Pitt Meadows.
During the closure, all drop-in activities like fitness classes, swimming, and skating will be paused. However, term memberships will be automatically extended by two weeks to make up for the lost time, so members won’t miss out on any value. Online registration for programs will stay open at pittfitandfun.ca, but in-person and phone registration will not be available while the centre is closed.
This annual shutdown lets city staff and contractors do essential work on building systems and equipment that can’t be done when the centre is busy. The centre, located at 12027 Harris Road, is the main hub for community fitness, swimming, skating, and youth programs in Pitt Meadows.
The facility typically runs from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. It includes a gymnasium, fitness centre, weight room, preschool and daycare, and the Constable Rick O’Brien Youth Lounge. The aquatic centre is operated by Recreation Excellence, which has served Pitt Meadows since 1999.
The Parks, Recreation & Culture department, led by Director Diane Chamberlain, oversees the centre along with more than 149 acres of parkland and the South Bonson Community Centre. Residents with questions about the closure or facility bookings can still call 604-465-2499 or email [email protected] during the maintenance period.
