Residents of Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, can expect unsettled spring weather to continue through the end of the week, with a high probability of showers forecast until Saturday. According to Environment Canada and The Weather Network, daytime temperatures will remain between 14 and 18 degrees Celsius, while overnight lows are expected to settle between 7 and 11 degrees.
While showery conditions are present throughout the region, no weather alerts are currently in effect for the city. Although wind warnings have been issued for some highways in the Southern Interior, local conditions remain stable with gradual clearing expected to begin on Sunday, followed by a mix of sun and cloud into early next week.
This period of spring weather coincides with the time of year when the community is typically most vigilant regarding water levels. Approximately 85 percent of the city is situated within the Fraser River and Pitt River floodplains, making the area susceptible to flooding from heavy rain and snowmelt during the spring thaw, which generally peaks in May and June.
To manage these risks, the City of Pitt Meadows maintains 60 kilometres of dikes and six pump stations. This infrastructure serves as a primary defense for the community’s low-lying areas and key facilities against potential river flooding.
