Residents in Quispamsis, New Brunswick, will soon have access to more senior care options following an official groundbreaking ceremony held on April 27, 2026, for a new 60-bed nursing home expansion at Parkland in the Valley.
Mayor Libby O’Hara hosted the event at the facility located at 19 Shannex Drive. She was joined by New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt, Seniors Minister Lyne Chantal Boudreau, and Minister of Local Government Aaron Kennedy, along with local council members to mark the start of construction.
The new project is part of the provincial government’s Stronger Care for Seniors: A Long-Term Care Plan for New Brunswick. This strategy is supported by a $993-million investment in the 2026-27 provincial budget. The broader plan aims to add 624 new long-term care beds across the province, with 240 of those beds committed to facilities operated by the family-owned Maritime company Shannex over the next two years. By providing more nursing home spaces, officials hope to reduce pressure on local hospitals by offering alternatives for seniors who often occupy acute-care beds while waiting for placement.
Construction is already underway, and the new building is expected to be completed by the fall of 2027. Once operational, the expansion is expected to bring approximately 300 new jobs to the Quispamsis area.
During the ceremony, Premier Holt noted that while these new beds are a significant step, they address about 25 percent of the current need. With more than 1,000 beds currently required province-wide, the government’s full 624-bed plan is expected to meet about half of the total demand.
