The Kennebecasis Watershed Restoration Committee is looking for community volunteers in Quispamsis to help with spring spawning surveys throughout 2026. These surveys are a vital part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to monitor fish populations and improve habitat conditions in the local river.
Volunteers will receive training to participate in the field work, which helps track the health of various fish species, including the Atlantic salmon. Because salmon numbers in the river are currently very low, and no recreational salmon fishery is permitted on the river, this data is essential for the committee’s conservation work. The gathered information helps guide projects at over 56 sites throughout the region, such as stream bank stabilization, tree planting, and habitat enhancement.
The committee has been working to restore the Kennebecasis River watershed to a sustainable state since 1994. The river itself spans approximately 95 kilometres, and the surrounding watershed covers over 134,660 hectares. The project is supported by a wide range of partners, including municipal representation from the Town of Quispamsis and the Town of Sussex, along with provincial and federal departments.
