City crews are working to complete residential street sweeping in Red Deer after the annual maintenance program began on May 19. The City of Red Deer has confirmed that Zone I is finished, crews are wrapping up work in the Inglewood and Vanier areas of Zone K, and operations are currently underway in the Laredo portion of Zone J.
The residential program, which kicked off on May 19, 2026, involves clearing away winter sanding materials to clean neighbourhoods and protect local waterways. According to Roads Superintendent DJ Brough, the effort requires 20 to 30 crew members and nearly a dozen sweepers to cover all zones. Because the work is weather-dependent, the program is expected to continue through June.
To help the process run smoothly, the city places no-parking signs on streets at least 12 hours before sweepers arrive. Residents are reminded that any vehicles left on these signed streets during the designated times may be ticketed and potentially towed. The city is currently reviewing its processes to minimize any further inconvenience for residents.
Operations generally run between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. To ensure safety, the city asks residents to stay at least three car lengths away from the sweeping equipment, as the machines can create flying debris. Residents can stay informed on local updates by signing up for the Notify Red Deer system.
