Residents of Rocky Mountain House can put away their umbrellas after Tuesday’s stormy weather passes, with Environment Canada calling for a stretch of sunny, pleasant conditions starting Wednesday.
Tuesday’s forecast brings a risk of afternoon thunderstorms and gusty northwest winds up to 40 km/h, with a high of 24°C that will feel more like 29 with the humidity. Overnight, things cool off to a low of 9°C.
After that, the sun takes over. Wednesday will be mainly sunny and 22°C, and the warmth builds through the rest of the week. Thursday and Friday are expected to be sunny with highs of 23°C and 27°C, climbing to 28°C by Saturday. Those temperatures are well above the late-July average of 22°C for the area.
The pleasant spell doesn’t last forever, though. Environment Canada is watching a cooldown that moves in Saturday night, with a 70 per cent chance of showers. Sunday looks cloudy and much cooler, with a high of just 17°C and a 60 per cent chance of more rain.
The improving forecast comes as a welcome change for a community still recovering from a pair of EF2 tornadoes that tore through the area on July 18. Those twisters packed winds of 190 km/h, damaging 51 properties and leaving eight homes uninhabitable. No serious injuries were reported, but cleanup and recovery efforts continue across Clearwater County.
