Salt Spring Island residents can expect unsettled weather through midweek as the first fall storm of the season arrives from the Gulf of Alaska. According to The Weather Network, a chance of showers arrives Tuesday night, with rain developing Wednesday and continuing into Thursday. Wednesday is expected to be the wettest day.
Environment Canada has identified the storm as a deepening low pressure system from the Gulf of Alaska, expected to bring rain and gusty winds to the region. Wednesday September 2 carries a 90% chance of rain, with approximately 5mm expected in the morning and another 5mm in the afternoon. The afternoon high will reach about 18°C.
Marine conditions will also deteriorate midweek. The Strait of Georgia marine forecast shows southeast winds increasing to 15 to 25 knots Wednesday morning, then strengthening to 25 to 35 knots by midday. Boaters should plan accordingly.
Conditions improve significantly by Friday September 4, with a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 18°C. The weekend looks especially pleasant, with sunny skies Saturday and a mix of sun and clouds Sunday, with temperatures reaching 20 to 22°C. This return to clear late-summer weather will offer a welcome break after the midweek rain.
