Salt Spring Island residents curious about artificial intelligence can get a hands-on introduction at a free workshop at the Salt Spring Island Public Library on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. The “AI Applications for Beginners” session is designed for adults with no technical background and will show how to use AI in everyday life.
The workshop will be led by Brian LaMure, a veteran technology executive who has built AI and data systems for education and financial technology companies, most recently as CTO of Dragonfly Duo. He aims to make AI understandable and useful for everyone. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop, tablet, or phone to try out AI tools during the session.
The event is free and open to all community members. The library, which serves a community of about 10,000 people, has made technology education a priority. It already offers free one-on-one tech tutoring on Tuesdays with a volunteer skilled in devices, Windows, Mac, iPads, eReaders, tablets, and OverDrive/Libby.
This workshop reflects a broader effort by public libraries across Canada to expand digital literacy and AI education. The Salt Spring library’s mission is to build opportunities for everyone to learn, connect, and explore, and it sees AI literacy as an important new skill for residents.
