Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Sandy Bay, as a late-season storm is expected to bring significant accumulation to the area starting Tuesday afternoon, April 7, 2026.
The weather system, identified as an Alberta clipper, is forecast to drop between 15 and 30 centimetres of snow across the region. The warning includes the Rural Municipality of Alonsa, as well as the Ebb and Flow Reserve and the Sandy Bay First Nation.
Residents should prepare for challenging travel conditions throughout the storm. Official forecasts indicate that road closures are possible, and there is a chance of local power or utility outages as the heavy snow moves through the area. The snowfall is expected to continue through Wednesday, eventually tapering off by Thursday morning.
As of early Tuesday morning, local conditions were already cold, with temperatures recorded at -11.3 C and a wind chill near -19. Community members are encouraged to monitor local updates for any changes to the forecast or road conditions as the storm progresses.
