The Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation is looking for community members to help represent the region at the 2028 North American Indigenous Games. The community leadership is calling for volunteers to join a planning committee and various support teams to prepare for the national sporting and cultural event.
The Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation, located on the western shore of Lake Manitoba, is seeking dedicated individuals to assist with these efforts. Participation in the games is viewed as a significant opportunity to showcase the community’s strong cultural identity, as approximately 80 percent of residents speak Ojibway fluently.
The 2028 games are expected to bring together over 5,000 athletes from approximately 700 nations across North America to compete in 15 different sports. While the North American Indigenous Games Council is currently in the process of selecting a host city, with a final decision expected in June 2026, the local recruitment drive is focused on ensuring the community is prepared to participate regardless of the location.
Provincial participation in the games is coordinated by the Manitoba Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Council, which manages Team Manitoba. Residents interested in applying for a role on the planning committee or joining a volunteer team can visit the official Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation website or social media channels for more information on the application process.
