The Rosalina Haines Memorial Youth Center in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation is hosting an all-day gaming event on Saturday, April 11, 2026. The event, which invites residents ages 10 and up to participate, runs from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm as part of the community’s ongoing efforts to expand recreational programming.
Participants are required to bring their own gaming equipment, as the Rosalina Haines Memorial Youth Center will provide internet connectivity but cannot supply monitors or connection cables. For attendees under 18 years old, a parent or guardian must be present at drop-off to provide contact information, review event rules, and sign a waiver for participation in Facebook Live streaming activities.
This event is the latest in a series of community-led initiatives in Sandy Bay, located on the western shore of Lake Manitoba, aimed at providing positive activities for local youth. The community, which is led by Chief Trevor Prince and Councillors Randal Roulette, Jason Starr, and Michael Dumas, has long prioritized the creation of engaging spaces for its younger members to address historical gaps in local recreation.
In addition to this one-day event, youth in the community can access the Nanaan Deweyziln Oshki Anishinaabek mentorship program. Offered in partnership with the Southern Chiefs’ Organization, this program hosts youth nights every Tuesday at the Sandy Bay Community Complex, focusing on cultural teachings and preventative programming.
