The Sherwood Park Fish & Game Association is hosting several firearms safety courses throughout March 2026 in Sherwood Park, Alberta. These sessions provide residents with the mandatory training needed to apply for a legal firearms licence.
Local instructor Adriel Michaud is teaching the classes at the association’s clubhouse. Basic safety training for common firearms was held on March 1 and will be offered again on March 14, while a course for restricted firearms is set for March 15.
According to the Government of Alberta, residents must pass these safety tests with a score of at least 80 per cent to qualify for a licence. The all-day courses run from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm on each scheduled day.
The association noted that these sessions may cause some congestion in the area. Members should expect limited parking at the range and restricted access to the clubhouse while the training is in progress.
These local classes follow a period of heightened safety awareness in the community. In February 2026, two schools in the area were placed on alert following a report of a weapon, though officials later determined the complaint was unfounded.
