Property owners in Sherwood Park were mailed their 2026 property tax notices on May 8, with the deadline for payment set for Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
The Strathcona County council approved a 4.88 per cent municipal tax revenue increase as part of the 2026 budget. This increase, which was passed by a 5-4 vote on December 16, 2025, includes 1.13 per cent for operational needs and growth, with the remaining portion directed toward capital priorities. When provincial education requirements are added to the municipal increase, the total residential tax impact is approximately 5.88 per cent.
A significant portion of the increase, two per cent, covers the final year of a three-year recreation infrastructure levy. This funding supports capital projects such as the $65 million indoor fieldhouse, which is expected to begin construction this year and open in 2028. For a representative residential property assessed at $513,000, the estimated municipal tax bill for 2026 is approximately $2,349. Property assessments for the year are based on market values from July 1, 2025, which saw an average increase of approximately 8 per cent compared to 2024.
Residents have several options for payment, including online banking, mail, or in-person at County Hall, located at 2001 Sherwood Drive. The county also offers a Tax Instalment Payment Plan that allows property owners to spread payments across 12 monthly instalments. To enrol in this plan, tax accounts must be paid in full.
Payments not received by the June 30 deadline will be subject to escalating penalties. A 3 per cent penalty will be applied on July 1, followed by an additional 6 per cent on August 1, and 9 per cent on September 1.
