Senior homeowners in Strathcona County, including Sherwood Park, can now apply for a $250 property tax rebate to help lower their living costs for the 2025 tax year. The Strathcona County program provides direct financial relief to older residents who own their homes and meet specific income requirements.
To qualify for the rebate, residents must be at least 65 years old and fall below income limits based on the “Total Income” (Line 15000) of their most recent tax documents. Single-person households must earn $34,770 or less, while two-person households must have a combined income of $56,820 or less to be eligible for the payment.
While the Seniors’ Property Tax Rebate is an established program, it is being highlighted as the Strathcona County Council implements the 2026 budget, which includes a 4.88 per cent increase in municipal property taxes. The rebate is intended to help seniors on fixed incomes manage rising costs while the county maintains local services and infrastructure.
Eligible residents have until May 31, 2026, to apply for the current cycle using their 2024 income information. When applying, homeowners must provide identification showing their birth date, proof of income for all household members, and a copy of their most recent property tax notice.
The county department for Family and Community Services is available to help residents book appointments and complete their applications. More information and forms can be found on the Seniors Property Tax Programs website.
