Residents of Sidney should prepare for blustery conditions as Environment Canada has included a meteorological advisory for strong wind gusts in its local forecast, valid from Monday evening, April 6, 2026, through Tuesday morning, April 7, 2026.
While Monday is expected to remain mild with a mix of sun and cloud, reaching highs of 20 degrees Celsius inland and 15 degrees Celsius near the water, conditions are set to shift by the evening. The advisory warns that high winds may toss loose outdoor items and break tree branches, creating a potential for disruptions to transportation and local utility services.
As the winds move in Monday night, clear skies will accompany a drop in temperature to around 3 degrees Celsius. Officials suggest residents take a few moments to secure any loose objects around their homes and ensure portable devices are fully charged ahead of time to account for potential power interruptions.
The region has seen several significant wind events in recent months. A storm in late December 2025 left more than 90,000 customers across the province without electricity, and a more recent windstorm on March 24-25, 2026, resulted in power outages for over 53,000 BC Hydro customers on Vancouver Island. While there are currently no active weather alerts on the official Environment Canada warning page for the Greater Victoria area, the internal advisory remains in place for the local forecast.
