Families with students at Spruce Grove Composite High School can expect a few adjustments when classes start in September. Parkland School Division said ongoing construction, mainly a water line installation slowed by recent weather, has kept the parking lot and site access from being finished in time for the new school year.
The division announced on August 6, 2026, that it is working with Alberta Infrastructure and Graham Construction to ensure a safe and orderly start on September 1. A temporary access point to the school office will be set up starting August 20, and it will stay in place until the parking lot paving is complete.
Students will arrive in two waves. Grades 11 and 12 begin Tuesday, September 1, followed by Grade 10 on Wednesday, September 2. The school board has not yet released specific drop-off routes or office access details, but says that information will be shared directly with families as the opening date gets closer.
The new high school is a $128.5-million project being built just east of the existing school. Once finished, it will replace the current building and boost student capacity from 1,247 to 1,910. Construction started in August 2025, and the new building is expected to be completed in winter 2028. After students move into the new facility, the old school will be demolished.
