The Royal Canadian Legion St. Paul Branch #100 is inviting everyone to celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Royal Canadian Legion on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Legion hall on 4925-49 Avenue. The event runs from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and honours nearly a century of supporting veterans and the community in St. Paul, Alberta.
The day will include games, socializing, and a meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, and salads. Refreshments will be available by donation. Organizers say the gathering is open to all, and it is a chance to recognize the Legion’s long history of service.
The celebration comes one day after the national centennial of The Royal Canadian Legion, which was officially incorporated on July 17, 1926. The Legion now has roughly 1,350 branches and more than 300,000 members across Canada, making it the country’s largest veteran support and community service organization.
St. Paul Branch #100 received its charter in 1930. A.J. Talbourdet, a First World War veteran who served in France, was its first president. The branch has operated in several locations over the years, including a permanent home in the old Elite Theatre building starting in 1942. It moved to its current hall on May 7, 2005, marking both 75 years of service and the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
Throughout its history, the Legion has provided emergency financial help to veterans and their families through the Poppy Trust Fund. That assistance covers things like housing, food, clothing, medical equipment, and emergency needs for those in need.
