The Steinbach Regional Secondary School Sabres hockey team beat the Oak Park Raiders 3-2 in overtime on February 26, 2026, to extend their playoff series in Steinbach, Manitoba. The victory at the Southeast Event Centre tied the best-of-three semifinal series at one game each.
The win was a major turnaround for the team after they lost the first game of the series on February 24, 2026. According to Head Coach John Laninga, the team was able to bounce back by using a hard-working style of play and solid goaltending from Kash Amor and Trae Fast.
The overtime win forced a third and final game to decide which team moves on to the championship round. The winner-take-all game was scheduled for February 27, 2026, at the Eric Coy Arena in Winnipeg.
Local fans and families had to quickly organize travel plans to support the team for the deciding game. This season has been the winningest regular season in the history of the school’s hockey program.
The winner of the series will advance to the WHSHL Provincial AAAA championship finals. The Sabres reached the semifinals after winning their previous playoff round against the College Jeanne-Sauvé Crusaders earlier in the month.
