Students at Steinbach Regional Secondary School have a new opportunity to receive financial support for their education as Manitoba Hydro is currently accepting applications for its Indigenous student awards program.
The awards, which are intended to recognize academic excellence among Indigenous high school students, are available for the 2026-27 school year. Applications are being accepted through July 15, 2026, after opening on April 7, 2026.
The program includes three types of awards. The Trio Award provides three awards of $200, $300, and $500 to one Indigenous student each in Grade 10, Grade 11, and Grade 12, respectively. This specific award requires students to complete designated mathematics, English, and science courses. Other available programs include the Northern Student Award and the Physics Award, which are reserved for students meeting specific geographic and enrollment criteria.
To qualify for any of these awards, applicants must identify as Indigenous and provide valid proof of ancestry, such as a Status, Métis, or Nunavut Certificate Card. School officials at the Hanover School Division facility are encouraging interested students and their families to reach out to guidance counsellors for more information or to contact the crown corporation directly to learn more about the application process.
