Registration is now open for the 2026 Stettler Skills Day, a hands-on event that gives local high school students a look at health care jobs in their own community. The event runs Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the Stettler Adult Learning Centre, 4911 51 Street, Stettler, Alberta.
Only 40 spots are available for Grade 10-12 students who live in Stettler County. “Students are encouraged to register early, only 40 spaces are available for this interesting and informative day,” says the County of Stettler.
The day is organized by the Stettler Regional Board of Trade and its Health Professionals Attraction and Retention Committee. Students will get to try real medical skills: suturing, giving injections, starting IVs, lab work, casting, airway management, spinal immobilization, and even ambulance and emergency response demos.
Local nurses, doctors, lab and X-ray techs, paramedics, and firefighters volunteer to run the stations and talk about their jobs. The goal is to show young people that health care careers can happen right at home, which matters in Stettler. The community has struggled with doctor shortages: about 7,000 area residents, or 6 out of 10 people, didn’t have a family doctor at one point. Recent recruitment has helped, but building a local workforce is still key.
