On February 18, 2026, the Manitoba government announced a $3.8 million investment in The Pas, Manitoba, to fix up local sports facilities and create a new cultural space. The funding will support major upgrades at the Roy H. Johnston Arena and the Kelsey Recreation Facilities.
Part of the money is set aside to transform the site of the former Lido Theatre into a new arts, culture, and learning centre. This location has been empty since the original building was destroyed by a fire about two years ago.
The money comes from a provincial grant program designed to help towns with growth and renewal projects. These funds are intended to help local governments maintain and improve the important buildings that residents use every day.
Mayor Andre Murphy said the improvements to the arena will specifically benefit youth sports and make the community a safer place. Local residents are now being invited to share their ideas at upcoming town hall meetings to help shape the future of these facilities.
