The Pas, Manitoba is in for an unsettled Monday, but skies will clear and temperatures will climb through mid-week, according to Environment Canada.
Monday morning brought clouds, showers, and a risk of thunderstorms, along with local smoke in the area. The smoke is drifting from wildfires burning across northern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. Environment Canada’s forecast calls for showers to end near noon, giving way to clearing skies and a high of 24 C.
No weather alerts are in effect for The Pas, but air quality statements remain active for parts of northern Manitoba. The local smoke is expected to thin out as conditions improve through the day.
Sunny weather returns Tuesday with a high of 25 C, and temperatures will keep climbing, reaching 28 C on Wednesday and 30 C by Thursday. This warm, dry stretch is ideal for outdoor plans before another chance of showers arrives Friday.
The sunny spell will be a welcome break during what has been one of the most intense wildfire seasons in Canadian history. As of mid-July, nearly 1,000 fires are burning across the country, with over 200 out of control. The season has already scorched roughly 2.9 million hectares, and Manitoba is among the provinces seeing significant fire activity.
