The Pas is under a heat warning as temperatures are set to climb to 30 degrees Celsius through Wednesday, with humidity making it feel closer to the upper 30s. Environment Canada issued the yellow-level alert Tuesday morning for the town and nearby communities including Cormorant, Westray and Wanless, warning of daytime highs between 28 and 30 C and overnight lows in the high teens.
On Tuesday, the forecast calls for a high of 29 C and a humidex of 36, with a 30 percent chance of showers and a risk of thunderstorms. Wednesday will be slightly hotter at 30 C, with a humidex reaching 37. The provincial heat alert criteria for northern Manitoba are triggered when, for two consecutive days, daytime highs reach 29°C with overnight lows at or above 16°C, or the humidex reaches 34.
Cooler air is expected to move in Thursday, with sunny skies and a high of 26 C. The heat warning remains in place for several northern Manitoba communities, including Norway House, Flin Flon, Snow Lake and Island Lake, even as southern parts of the province have seen a break from earlier extreme temperatures.
Manitoba Health advises residents without air conditioning to seek out cool public spaces like libraries, community centres, shaded parks, or designated cooling centres. Those most at risk during hot weather include older adults, infants, pregnant people, and anyone with chronic health conditions or mobility challenges. People working or exercising outdoors are also urged to take extra care.
