Organizers for the Northern Manitoba Trappers’ Festival began looking for volunteers on February 28, 2026, to help run events for the 2027 milestone season in The Pas, Manitoba. This recruitment drive offers local residents the chance to take on roles like working at the gates, serving food, supervising the kid zone, or helping as race marshals for the 80th anniversary of the event.

People who want to participate can fill out an online form and will need to attend training sessions that have already been set by the festival board. These roles include helping with the 105-mile World Championship Dog Race, which is a major part of the oldest winter celebration in the province, according to Travel Manitoba.

The Manitoba government recently invested $25,000 into the 2026 festival, which concluded in late February, to help pay for operations and programs that celebrate local heritage. This funding supported the community effort required to host the five-day event, which traditionally features traditional skills like bannock baking and tea boiling.

Community groups like the Kinsmen Club of The Pas also play a large part in the festival by managing the dog races and preparing the courses. These volunteer positions ensure that the festival has enough people to manage logistics and hospitality as it continues its long-standing tradition in the north.
