The Pas and Area Animal Shelter is calling on the community for support through a month-long fundraising campaign this April 2026. As a volunteer-run, non-profit organization, the shelter relies entirely on donations and community-led fundraising to provide essential food, housing, and veterinary care for abandoned and stray animals in Northern Manitoba.
The facility, located at 63 16th Street, has faced ongoing challenges with limited space and high demand. The organization has been working to secure a new, permanent home for several months to better serve local pets. These efforts come as the shelter continues to manage a significant increase in the number of dogs needing care, with intake numbers nearly doubling between 2021 and 2022.
Because the shelter does not receive guaranteed government funding, community assistance remains critical to its daily operations. The shelter often relies on foster homes to house animals when the physical building reaches capacity, and some dogs must occasionally wait in the lobby area until a space or transportation to an alternate rescue can be arranged. Past support from organizations like Westoba Credit Union has helped with facility upgrades, such as a 2022 grant that allowed for the renovation of space specifically to house dogs.
