Residents of The Pas are invited to participate in the upcoming walk to raise funds and awareness for those living with multiple sclerosis. The annual event, organized by MS Canada, will take place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 19 at 4 Veterans Way.
Participants can check in for the event starting at 10:00 a.m. Opening ceremonies are set for 11:00 a.m., followed by the 5 km walk. The event offers both in-person and virtual participation options for community members.
Multiple sclerosis affects over 90,000 Canadians, with approximately 12 new diagnoses occurring every day across the country. Canada currently has one of the highest rates of the disease in the world, with 290 out of every 100,000 Canadians aged 20 and older living with the condition.
As a non-governmental organization, MS Canada relies almost entirely on private donations, corporate sponsors, and community fundraisers to continue its work. Since its founding in 1948, the organization has invested over $224 million in research, including approximately $10 million annually. This investment supports various initiatives, such as the 68 grants recently awarded in the 2025-2026 research competition.
The MS Walk has been a staple of the organization’s fundraising efforts since 1991. Today, it serves as the largest pledge-based fundraiser for the group, involving more than 60,000 people across over 160 Canadian communities.
