The Pas Huskies U13 female hockey team is in Thompson, Manitoba, this week to compete in the 2026 Manitoba Winter Games, which began on March 5, 2026. The team, which represents players from The Pas, Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN), and the surrounding Tri-Community region, earned their spot through regional playdowns during the winter months.
The girls’ hockey tournament is taking place at the Gordon Beard Arena in Thompson from March 5-7. This event serves as a pinnacle for young athletes in the province’s Program of Excellence pathway, bringing together top players from across Manitoba’s sport regions to compete at a high level.
Community members and local families have supported the team with donations and fundraising to help cover the costs of the trip to Northern Manitoba. Local hockey organizers note that the event brings together athletes from across the province to showcase the growth of female minor hockey.
While some provincial hockey categories held separate championship tournaments this month, the U13 female division is a highlight of the multi-sport Manitoba Winter Games. The Huskies continue to represent the Tri-Community area as they face off against regional teams from across the province.
