A free Art Therapy and Paint Night is coming to the Heritage North Museum in Thompson on June 26, 2026. The event runs from 5 to 7 PM and is meant for 2SLGBTQQIA+ community members aged 12 and up.
The evening is put on by the museum and the MKO MMIWG Liaison Unit. Facilitators Ace Campbell and Mitchell Saunders will lead the session, and all supplies are provided. Space is limited, so anyone interested needs to register ahead of time. Younger children can come if a parent or caregiver stays with them.
The Heritage North Museum, at 162 Princeton Drive, has become a busy community space since it reopened after pandemic closures. The museum saw more than 1,000 visitors to its exhibits in 2025 alone. It sits in a distinctive log building and works to share the history of Thompson and the surrounding area.
The MKO MMIWG Liaison Unit started in September 2017 to support families and communities affected by missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, as well as survivors of violence and Two Spirit and gender-diverse people. MKO itself represents 26 First Nations in Northern Manitoba, serving more than 72,000 people.
