Thompson, Manitoba, saw several schools evacuated on Tuesday afternoon after the RCMP responded to bomb threats that were called in around noon. The threats were general and not directed at a single school, so out of an abundance of caution, all schools in the city were cleared while officers swept each building.
By 2:30 p.m., every school had been given the all clear. No suspicious packages were found at any of the seven schools affected. Classes resumed on Wednesday.
School District of Mystery Lake superintendent Angele Bartlett had confirmed by 2 p.m. that three schools were already deemed safe. The R.D. Parker Collegiate graduation parade, originally set for Tuesday, was postponed because of the threats.
Thompson Mayor Colleen Smook said the threat was not aimed at a specific school, so evacuating them all was the right move. The RCMP have made no arrests, and the investigation continues.
These threats are the latest in a string of similar incidents across Manitoba this year, including charges against teens in Rivers and Sandy Bay First Nation for allegedly planning attacks at their schools.
