Tim Hortons and its local restaurant owners are putting roughly $13 million into Manitoba communities this year, and Thompson is on the list for a renovation. The company announced plans to build three new restaurants and refresh 10 existing ones across the province in 2026, with the Thompson location at 300 Mystery Lake Road among those getting an upgrade.
The work is part of a much larger national push by Tim Hortons and its franchisees to invest $400 million across Canada, building 80 new restaurants and renovating 400 more. In Manitoba, Dauphin, Morden, Morris, and Winnipeg are also seeing renovations, while Morden and Winnipeg will welcome the three new builds.
Tim Hortons President Axel Schwan said the investment is about giving customers inviting spaces. “Tim Hortons was built in Canada by Canadians, and we are proud to continue investing in Canada to give our guests beautiful, modern restaurants to enjoy,” Schwan said. “These are Canadian families investing their own money in their own communities – and that’s something we’re proud of.”
The company points out that every dollar stays local, creating work for tradespeople such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, roofers, and general contractors. Across the country, 340 restaurant owners are taking part, with 60 building new locations and 280 handling renovations. Franchisees are putting up $270 million of the total, while Tim Hortons corporate is adding $130 million.
The Thompson refresh comes as the city is seeing other economic activity, including a consortium led by Canada Growth Fund investing up to US$200 million to acquire and revitalize the Thompson Nickel Mine, and the community having hosted the 2026 Manitoba Winter Games.
