The Thunder Bay Police Service arrested a 30-year-old man from Ajax, Ontario, on May 5, 2026, following an investigation that resulted in the seizure of $70,000 worth of suspected cocaine. Members of the police service’s Intelligence Unit searched a home and vehicle in the Munro Street area, where they also discovered over $20,000 in cash.
Jayden Massey is facing charges of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He remains in custody following his first court appearance. The investigation, which began in April 2026, marks one of the larger drug seizures reported by local police so far this year.
This arrest follows a trend of drug traffickers from outside the region moving into local communities. According to police data, approximately one-third of individuals arrested on drug-related charges in the city are from the Greater Toronto Area. This number has increased significantly in recent years, rising from seven individuals in 2023 to about 20 in 2025.
Local authorities have noted that the city is increasingly being used as a transportation hub for illegal substances intended for northern and Indigenous communities. The Intelligence Unit continues to focus on these cross-regional operations, building on major enforcement efforts from last year that resulted in more than $1 million in drug seizures and over 40 arrests.
