The Kinsmen Bridge Replacement Project in Tillsonburg is facing further delays, with construction now expected to continue into early May 2026. The project, which involves replacing a historic railway bridge originally built in 1877, was previously expected to conclude by mid-March 2026.
According to the Town of Tillsonburg, the latest setback is due to longer-than-anticipated manufacturing and production timelines for structural components at the supplier’s facility. While the bridge remains under construction, the Veterans Memorial Walkway and the north end of the Participark Trail will remain closed to the public.
To assist residents navigating the area, the town is continuing to provide free T:GO bus service as a detour. This service specifically supports riders near Stop 27 on Wilson and Stop 32R on Hickory until the bridge project is completed.
The town has confirmed that any additional costs resulting from this schedule change, such as expenses for crane rental or remobilization, will be covered by the contractor and their supplier. These costs will not be the responsibility of the municipality.
Once finished, the new bridge will feature a prefabricated design made with weathering steel and galvanized grating. The project includes upgrading the existing masonry piers with new concrete caps and adding LED lighting. Additionally, town council has decided to retain salvaged elements from the original bridge tower to be installed as a monument near the trail network.
