Oxford County has issued a public notice for its 2026 roadside weed and brush spraying program, which will take place across various townships and rural sections of the City of Woodstock starting on or after May 18, 2026. The vegetation management work is expected to be finished by June 30, 2026, though the timeline remains subject to local weather conditions.
The program targets noxious weeds and brush to maintain road safety and manage plant species that can cause health issues, such as wild parsnip. The county operates this program under an exception to provincial rules regarding pesticide use, which allows for the application of products on public works to protect community health and safety as outlined by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.
Spraying will occur along 24 specified county roads throughout the townships of Blandford-Blenheim, East Zorra-Tavistock, Norwich, South-West Oxford, and Zorra, as well as rural areas within the City of Woodstock. The county will utilize two herbicide products for this work: ClearView Herbicide and Navius FLEX. Both products are registered under the Pest Control Products Act administered by federal regulators.
Residents who have questions regarding the application, including those with concerns about properties near gardens or water sources, are encouraged to contact the Oxford County office. The primary contact for this program is Shawn G. Vanacker, C.Tech., CRS-S, CMM III, Supervisor of Road Operations, who can be reached at 519-539-9800 or toll-free at 1-866-537-7778, extension 3106.
