The Town of Tillsonburg, Ontario, is calling on residents to step up and serve on local committees that shape health care and property rules in the community. While the town previously listed one opening on the Community Health Care Advisory Committee and five vacancies on the Property Standards Committee in May 2024, the current Boards and Committees page as of early 2026 shows openings on the Affordable and Attainable Housing Advisory Committee instead. Residents are encouraged to check the town’s website for the latest volunteer opportunities.
These volunteer positions let everyday citizens have a direct say in important local decisions. The Community Health Care Advisory Committee focuses on increasing health care capacity in Tillsonburg. It has 14 members, including people from the mayor’s office, town council, Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, and other health care groups.
The appeal for volunteers comes as Tillsonburg takes bigger steps on health care. In March 2026, town council agreed to join a regional physician recruitment alliance with Oxford County and nearby municipalities. The town budgeted $90,000 per year for staff time, $30,000 for marketing, and $70,000 for incentives to attract doctors in 2026. Serving on the health care advisory committee means helping to guide how those efforts play out locally.
The Property Standards Committee hears appeals of orders related to property upkeep and standards. Its decisions can be appealed to the By-Law Appeals Committee, which also deals with animal control and business licensing disputes. Recent activity includes a November 2025 appeal of an order to muzzle a dog in town, showing how these committees touch real lives.
Anyone interested can apply through the Town of Tillsonburg clerk’s office. Town council appoints all committee members for four-year terms that match the municipal council cycle.
