The Hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk is now taking applications for the Small Community Employment Support Program, with a deadline of June 11, 2026 at 3:00 PM. Residents in the Beaufort Delta community who are looking for work or income support can apply by contacting the hamlet office before the cutoff.
This program is funded by the Government of the Northwest Territories and aims to create local employment pathways. It was redesigned in 2018 to send money directly to community governments like the Hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk, so they can offer on-the-job training and jobs that fit local needs.
Tuktoyaktuk has long faced higher joblessness than much of the territory. A 2019 statistical profile showed an unemployment rate of 30.1 percent, while the NWT average sat at 10.7 percent. The gap was even wider for Indigenous residents, whose employment rate was just 37.7 percent compared to 87.9 percent for non-Indigenous people in the community of about 995 people.
