A 69-year-old woman from Melita passed away following a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway on March 23, 2026. The incident occurred at the Kemnay turnoff just west of Brandon, which is a key junction for motorists in southwestern Manitoba.
At approximately 10:10 a.m., the woman was driving an SUV and attempted to cross the highway when she was struck by an eastbound semi-trailer truck. The Blue Hills RCMP reported that the woman died from her injuries at the scene, while the driver of the truck was not injured.
Officers closed the eastbound lanes of the highway for several hours to conduct an investigation into the crash. This section of the road is a major corridor for those traveling between Brandon and communities toward the Saskatchewan border.
This collision took place on the same highway route as the Carberry bus crash in 2023, which claimed the lives of 17 seniors from the Dauphin area. Since that tragedy, the province has committed $12 million toward safety improvements specifically for the Carberry intersection to help prevent similar accidents in the future.
