Drivers in View Royal should prepare for delays on Island Highway as lane closures are set for May 12 to May 15, 2026. The Town of View Royal Engineering Department has issued a traffic advisory for the work, which will take place daily between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
The closures are required for underground utility installation at 181 Island Highway. This work is associated with the ongoing construction of The Grand and Fir, an 82-unit condominium project being built by GT Mann Contracting. This effort marks the second phase of utility work for the development, following a similar series of closures that occurred from April 13 to April 17, 2026.
During the upcoming work, traffic will be managed through a single-lane alternating flow controlled by flaggers. While motorists can expect some travel disruption, officials have confirmed that emergency vehicles will be given priority and will maintain immediate access through the work zone.
Island Highway has seen several infrastructure projects throughout 2026. Earlier this year, BC Hydro began transmission maintenance that required lane closures on the 200-block between Stewart Avenue and Plowright Drive, though the work was suspended on February 24 after unexpected challenges were discovered. Major upgrades to support BC Transit RapidBus services were completed along Island Highway in View Royal in 2024-2025.
