Drivers in View Royal should prepare for potential traffic delays on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, as the community hosts the 5th Annual Our Women Are Sacred Memorial Walk. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to mark the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People, also known as Red Dress Day.
The memorial walk will officially begin at 11:00 a.m. Participants are set to depart from Hallowell Road, moving onto Admirals Road and continuing until they reach Maplebank Road. The Town of View Royal has issued a traffic advisory for the area, and local officials note that the Westshore RCMP will be on-site to manage traffic flow throughout the duration of the event.
The memorial is organized by Surrounded by Cedar Child & Family Services, an agency that supports the urban Indigenous community on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen people. This year’s walk is being held in collaboration with the Songhees Nation and the Esquimalt First Nation, alongside several other community partners. The walk serves as a space for the community to honour and remember those impacted by the ongoing crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
