Residents of View Royal, BC, will have a chance to meet the people running in the October 17, 2026 municipal election at a candidates’ open house on September 24, 2026.
The informal event runs from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Victoria Scottish Community Centre, located at 1803 Admirals Road. It is hosted by Darlene Rotchford, MLA for Esquimalt-Colwood, and offers a casual setting for residents to ask questions and hear where candidates stand on local issues.
Five people are running for mayor: Anna Becker, Volker Dammann, Teodora Kristof, Ryan Painter, and former mayor David Screech. Incumbent Mayor Sid Tobias is not seeking re-election. There are 12 candidates competing for six council seats, including three incumbents: Don Brown, Gery Lemon, and Ron Mattson. The event is listed on the Town of View Royal website.
Transportation and traffic congestion are expected to be key campaign themes. View Royal sits between Victoria’s core and the growing West Shore communities, making it a “nexus for transportation,” as described by outgoing Mayor Tobias. Voters will also decide a non-binding plebiscite question on whether to allow short-term rentals in the municipality.
A second all-candidates forum, hosted online by the WestShore Chamber of Commerce, is set for September 28, 2026. Election day is October 17, 2026.
