On March 13, 2026, the Waterloo Regional Police Service arrested a 16-year-old youth from Kitchener after a weapons-related incident at Glenview Park Secondary School in Cambridge, Ontario.
Police responded to the school at approximately 1 p.m. following reports that a person with a knife was inside the building. The youth allegedly attempted to start a physical fight with a student before fleeing the scene on foot.
Officers located and arrested the teenager a short distance from the school property. He has been charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and was held by police for a bail hearing.
The incident follows other recent security concerns at regional schools, including a hoax emergency call at Grand River Collegiate Institute earlier this month. Local authorities are currently focusing on increased patrol presence and community outreach to address safety concerns in area schools.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service Board is currently reviewing its budget and staffing levels for the 2026 year. Police officials stated that their intervention was necessary to ensure the immediate safety of the school environment.
