The Waterloo Regional Police Service is investigating a targeted shooting that left an armoured vehicle employee seriously injured in Waterloo, Ontario.
The incident took place at approximately 2:30 a.m. on May 13, 2026, at a Scotiabank branch near the intersection of Fischer-Hallman Road and Erb Street West. A 40-year-old employee of GardaWorld was approached by at least four suspects and shot multiple times during what police are describing as a targeted robbery. A second 25-year-old employee was also present but did not sustain physical injuries.
According to Teamsters Canada Local Union 879, which represents the workers, the injured man underwent surgery and was in stable condition as of May 14, 2026. The company has stated that it is cooperating with law enforcement and prioritizing support for the affected crew member and their family.
Police have not yet provided descriptions of the suspects, who remain at large. This event marks the third shooting incident in the Waterloo Region in 2026. While overall shooting incidents in the region have declined recently, the area continues to record the fourth-highest violent crime rate among Ontario’s 12 largest police services.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service is asking anyone with information or video footage of the area to contact their investigators.
