The University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, announced on March 9, 2026, that Dr. Bill Rosehart has been named its eighth President and Vice-Chancellor. Dr. Rosehart is the first graduate in the history of the school to be appointed to the top leadership position.
He will begin a five-year term on July 1, 2026. He is taking over the role from the current president, Dr. Vivek Goel, who will finish his time in the position on June 30, 2026.
Dr. Rosehart has a long history with the university, having earned three different degrees there between 1996 and 2001. Before returning to lead his former school, he served as a high-level academic leader at the University of Guelph and as a dean at the University of Calgary.
The university Board of Governors chose Dr. Rosehart to oversee the school’s future research and campus operations. His leadership is expected to focus on growing the university’s work in areas like artificial intelligence, health innovation, and environmental issues.
