Waterloo, Ontario is heading into a week of unsettled weather, with a chance of evening thunderstorms today and another round of showers expected by mid-week, according to Environment Canada.
As of 1:00 p.m. Monday, the Region of Waterloo Int’l Airport reported mostly cloudy skies and a temperature of 22.9°C, with a humidex of 27. No weather alerts are currently in effect, but The Weather Network says there is a risk of scattered thunderstorms over the next 12 hours.
Today’s forecast calls for mainly cloudy conditions and a high of 25°C, feeling like 30 with the humidity. There is a chance of evening thunderstorms, followed by fog patches overnight as the low drops to 13°C.
Tuesday brings a break, with sunny skies and a high of 26°C, but the risk of wet weather returns Wednesday, when Environment Canada predicts a mix of sun and cloud with a 40 percent chance of showers and a high of 24°C.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the unsettled pattern continues. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be cloudy with a 40 to 60 percent chance of showers, and temperatures will cool to about 20°C by Sunday.
Residents planning outdoor activities should monitor conditions closely, as thunderstorms can develop quickly. Environment Canada recently launched an improved warning system on August 12 that uses GPS-based polygons to target severe thunderstorm and tornado alerts more precisely, helping reduce unnecessary warnings while still keeping people informed.
