Waterloo Regional Police arrested a 30-year-old man on March 29, 2026, following a four-hour standoff at a residence near University Avenue East and Marshall Street in Waterloo, Ontario.
Officers initially responded to a call regarding a dispute at the home around 2:50 p.m. on March 28, 2026. When police arrived to speak with the man, he brandished a knife and uttered threats toward both another individual and the responding officers.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service deployed its specialized Emergency Response Team to manage the situation. The incident was brought to a peaceful close at approximately 7 p.m. when the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
No injuries were reported during the confrontation. The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing and faces charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
