Youth in Watson Lake have access to a variety of free after-school programming throughout April 2026. The sessions, which take place Monday through Friday from 3 PM to 5 PM, include arts, sports, and dedicated time for homework help.
These activities are supported by the Government of Yukon through its Youth Investment Fund. This provincial grant program provides financial backing to projects designed for youth under 19 years of age who may have limited access to extracurricular activities in their communities.
Local programs often utilize the Morgan Chaddock Recreation Centre as a central hub. The facility includes a dedicated youth centre equipped with a pool table and air hockey, alongside a larger complex that features a hockey arena, curling club, and fitness rooms.
While the programs are open to local youth, organizers encourage families to register through their schools. Students in kindergarten through grade 7 attend Johnson Elementary School, while those in grades 8 through 12 attend Watson Lake Secondary School. Both institutions operate under the Yukon First Nation School Board.
For more information on recreational opportunities, residents can reach out to the Town of Watson Lake Parks and Recreation Department or contact the recreation centre directly at 867-536-8020. The centre is located at 912 Lakeview Ave.
