The Liard First Nation is currently looking to fill five senior leadership positions as the organization navigates a period of significant internal transition. The roles available include a Director of Human Resources, a Communications and Funding Coordinator, an Income Assistance Admin Assistant, a Manager of Mental Wellness, and a newly created Director of Health and Social position.
These employment opportunities come as the Liard First Nation prepares for its next regular election in June 2026. The organization, which represents approximately 1,225 registered members with communities in Watson Lake, Upper Liard, and Lower Post, has been managing these leadership changes amidst ongoing internal governance discussions.
The administrative body has also worked to address long-standing challenges, including a threatened funding freeze from Indigenous Services Canada in late 2024 related to missing financial reports and outstanding audits. Despite these administrative hurdles, the nation reached a milestone in December 2024 with the opening of a new nine-unit Elders Housing Complex in Watson Lake. This project was supported by funding from Yukon Housing Corporation and federal sources.
