Watson Lake residents looking for a fun and competitive way to celebrate Canada Day can join a 4-on-4 beach volleyball tournament at Lucky Lake on July 1, 2026. The event is free to enter and will award cash prizes to the winning teams.
The tournament is open to anyone 16 and older. Teams can sign up by providing a team name and player list at the Recreation Centre (912 Lakeview Ave) or by calling 867-536-8020 ext. 2. Organizers say the event will go ahead rain or shine.
Lucky Lake is Watson Lake’s main summer recreation spot, featuring sandy beaches, hiking trails, fire pits, a ball diamond, and the only waterslide north of 60 degrees latitude in Canada and the United States. The 500-foot slide drops 60 feet and is operated on weekends by staff from the Dennis Ball Memorial Pool. A beach volleyball area is already part of the park’s offerings.
The Town of Watson Lake Parks and Recreation Department runs seasonal operations at the lake and also organizes community events such as Kiki Karnival, Discovery Day, and Halloween Week. Canada Day at Lucky Lake has long included family favourites like a community cake, children’s activities, and horseshoes, making the new tournament a natural fit for this year’s celebration.
