The Town of Watson Lake will hold a Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at 6:00 PM to discuss vacant building fees, a housing fund update, and community grants. Residents can attend in person at Council Chambers on 710 Adela Trail or join online through Zoom.
Council will consider a motion to pay open payables totalling $190,592.14 and hear an update from Elevator Yukon on the Housing Accelerator Fund. The fund brought over $2 million to Watson Lake in late 2023 to help create more local housing.
The Housing Accelerator Fund has several grant programs aimed at boosting housing supply. Applications for the Housing Development Grant, Residential Conversion Grant, and Suite Renovation Grant closed just a day before the meeting, on June 1, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. In September 2024, the Housing Development Grant Program handed out $560,000 for 14 new units.
A report on the Unoccupied and Vacant Buildings Bylaw and associated fees and charges will also be up for discussion. Council will also consider grant approval recommendations from the Community Lottery Fund, which supports arts, sport, and recreation projects. The Community Lottery Program applications are reviewed by the Watson Lake Recreation Advisory Committee, which then sends its suggestions to council for a final decision.
Council will also appoint a new member to the Recreation Advisory Committee. The committee helps decide how lottery funds are spent on local recreation.
The meeting agenda is available on the Town of Watson Lake website. Residents who want to watch or take part remotely can find Zoom instructions on the same page.
