The Town of Watson Lake is hiring a full-time equipment operator to work at the local landfill, with applications closing on July 30, 2026 at 4:00pm Yukon Time.
The Equipment Operator I position pays between $30.30 and $33.10 per hour, depending on experience, for a 40-hour week. The job involves running heavy equipment, collecting residential garbage, and keeping the Solid Waste Facility clean and secure under the direction of the Equipment Operator 3.
Applicants must have a valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence and at least two years of experience with heavy equipment such as single-axle trucks, front-end loaders, excavators, or skid-steers.
This is a union job. The town’s employees are represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), and whoever gets hired will need to join the union.
The job is with the Public Works Department, where Glen Thrush is the Director of Municipal Operations and Chad Rudd oversees the landfill and recycling centre as Facility Supervisor.
To apply, send a cover letter and resume by email to [email protected] or drop them off at the Town Office at 710 Adela Trail in Watson Lake.
The Yukon has been putting money into regional landfills, including Watson Lake’s, with upgrades like power, gates, and compactors. But filling jobs like this one is tough right now. The territory continues to face ongoing labour shortages, with a shrinking labour pool despite historically high participation rates.
