Westlock residents can celebrate Alberta Day with free pancakes, a barbecue, and no-cost museum entry on August 29, 2026. The Town of Westlock is hosting the festivities at two local museums, starting with a pancake breakfast from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Westlock Pioneer Museum at 10216 100 Street.
A barbecue follows from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Canadian Tractor Museum at 9704 96 Avenue. Admission to both museums is free all day, giving people a chance to explore Westlock’s rural roots and agricultural history.
Alberta Day marks September 1, 1905, when the Alberta Act formally created the province. The Government of Alberta officially declared the celebration in 2022 and encourages communities to recognize both provincial heritage and the contributions of Indigenous Peoples, whose presence on Treaty 6 land predates Westlock’s founding.
The Westlock Pioneer Museum, operated by the Westlock & District Historical Society since 1991, showcases artifacts from early settler families in Westlock and surrounding communities like Clyde, Dapp, and Busby. The Canadian Tractor Museum preserves agricultural heritage with 90 restored full-sized tractors, 30 stationary engines, and the world’s largest working weather vane featuring a 1942 Model D Case tractor.
